Your Life’s Passion?

What does it mean when I ask are you living your life’s passion? What comes up for you? What I am talking about is that ’thing’ that gets you revved up and jumping out of bed in the morning. It usually involves some act of ‘doing’ or a state of ‘being’ - something that makes you feel fulfilled, happy, joyous, and often is connected to what you may refer to your life’s purpose. It is not about the glory or attention, although that may follow. It is an intimate experience, yet so obvious to those around you that you are in bliss - it just shows on your face and others can feel the electric energy your emitting.
Ever been around a passionate person? Is it a uplifting experience for you? Or, is there a part of you that is jealous or insecure because you know you are not following your passion?
The million dollar question: What is your life’s passion? If you know what it is, are you giving it expression? If you are giving it expression, is it alot or a little? If you are someone who is giving your passion full expression, what is like for you? If it was taken away tomorrow, what impact would that have on you? If you are giving your passion a little time and energy, what would it be like to increase it a notch? And, then another notch? What is stopping you from doing this?
What if you do not know what your life’s passion is? Then what? It’s like when Dorothy said to the Wizard that there was something for everyone in his sack, except her. Except you. Well, we can not have this! Let’s get down to business and figure it out.
Now, I distinguish between something your passionate about or like ie. gardening, travelling, collecting antiques, etc. (people often have many passions); this is different from your Life’s Passion, which is a deeper, from the ‘Core of your Being’ place; something you love. Or, it may be your Life’s Purpose - the reason you believe you were put on this Earth. Another way to look at it is the small ‘p’ everyday type passion (what you like) and the big ‘P’, deep, from your Core/Life’s Purpose Passion (what you love).
To uncover your big ‘P’, a good starting point is asking yourself what are your everyday (small ‘p’)passions? They could be something you enjoy doing now or liked as a child. Is it or was it painting, soccer, babysitting, or being around animals? Is it or was it reading, making others laugh or helping your mom in the kitchen? Look at pictures from your childhood to jog your memory if needed. Now, do any of these things resonate deeply with you? Experiment with this strategy for a while. Did you come up with any leads?
Another way to identify your Life’s Passion is to ask yourself whether there is a time when you lose all ‘track of time?’ What were you doing? Anything click for you here? Can you think of something that could be described as a ‘Labor of Love’? Something you would do whether you got paid or not? It’s more than a hobby. It gives your life meaning, filling your soul with gratitude at having been so blessed.
Three more suggestions are to ask your friends and family what they have noticed about when you are the happiest or a topic you simply can not stop talking about. Try different activities, even ones you don’t think you’ll like. You never know what will stick. So, keep an open mind and experiment. Finally, meditate on this question. It is in silence that your truth will be revealed to you.
If you have had the good fortune to have discovered your Life’s Passion and Purpose, congratulations. You have accomplished a momentous feat. Be a role-model for us all. Please share your experience with us…inspiration is a good thing.
I will end by saying that I am living my Life’s Passion and Purpose, but it is wonderful to hear other people’s experiences. My Passion and Purpose are one and the same - to be able to share my truth with others and help improve their lives as well as my own. I thank God for bringing Life Coaching to me…or me to Coaching. This is when all the pieces in my life began falling into place….
Now, I will truly end by stating that you have everything to gain by trying out the suggestions above if you don’t know what your big ‘P’ Passion is. I encourage you to share your progress. You don’t know who you may be helping or who may reach out to help you.
With Gratitude for those having the courage to ask “What is my Life’s Passion?”,
